McCoy didn't much care for space, there were too many damn variables and he liked having a hell of a lot more control than that. But there were always malfunctions, asteroid fields, sabotages. Half of it he didn't understand, and he didn't want to. He knew plenty already, he knew the human body and he knew a damn good amount about the human mind. But it did make moments like this aggravating, to say the least. The whole ship's power flickered, causing more than just a little disruption to his usually perfectly running medbay. But other than resetting everything, he hadn't thought much about it.
At least not until a few men came hauling an unconscious captain into his medbay. Mccoy gestured towards an operating table and ordered the men out before giving the captain the attention he probably deserved. Hell, he was half sure this was all some sort of setup. Passing out on the ship? That was either stupid, or dire. That he wasn't stabbed in the back on the way here was somewhat of a damn miracle. It felt like every week there was some idiot trying to usurp Jim's captain's seat. It never ended well for the other person.
Not even McCoy had entirely avoided Jim's sadistic tendencies, though asked Jim would absolutely say McCoy deserved the bionic eye that he now had. McCoy's never quite felt like he's gotten proper revenge for that, and the thought does cross his mind as he watches Jim's chest rise and fall. But hurting an unconscious man doesn't set well with him. Still, he wasn't going to let this chance slip through his fingers. So he made sure he had Jim strapped in before shifting mentality from revenge to something reflecting a medical professional. But a few scans and he came up with no injuries, no abnormality, aside from the strange wardrobe change Jim had apparently decided to swap into before passing out.
It left him with a few questions, but none that couldn't wait until Jim woke up, and until he did, McCoy pulled up a chair and waited. It wasn't like he had anything better to do anyway, and truth be told, Jim was a curiosity that he had never quite been able to shake.
